How I really feel about being Pregnant in the City: meh.
Shoutout
to all the folks who cared.
My pregnancy has been ok. Not too bad, and not as flowery beautiful as others make it seem. But that’s just me.
There are lots of moments where I am in wonder and awe of what my body can do. Like growing a baby and creating a new placenta / organ, and having amazing people in my life.
But then there are also many moments of feeling new discomforts and pains that come with a changing body (like your uneven hips that weren't painful before now contributing to SI joint pains, or just the weight of a bowling ball on your belly) while commuting within the city and navigating a city full of characters…
the man who took a shit at my subway stop,
a woman who put her coffee cup on the bench and told me I couldn't sit there because I was pregnant,
young college grads who were so enthralled in their conversation about a boy until they finally looked up 6 stops later to notice me standing in front of them while they sat in a designated seating area for those who need to sit (pregnant, disabled, elderly)
But that comes with the territory and culture here. And the thing is, there are many moments that balance out the humanity and goodness of people.
the man who ran after me asking if I needed help carrying my hulken bag up the stairs,
the woman who waved me down on the subway and asked if I needed a chair,
the young kid who didn't know if I was bloated or pregnant and straight up asked "yo, you pregnant?" on the subway, and when I answered yes, he just got up
So, maybe a middle ground ‘meh’ is good in this case.
